...and the booster separation was DIRECTLY IN FRONT of me and my housemate in a public parking lot. We had just arrived and saw someone parked near us videoing with their phone toward the clear western sky. We looked out our left window and saw the just-detached booster falling away from the ascending, accelerating spacecraft with its three main engines full-throttle. The rocket plume was luminescent white. It looked very much like the tail of the Hale-Bopp comet when it passed by (I saw that event clearly from a mountain top 7000 ft elevation).
It was breathtaking. Even better it's a PRIVATE launch - and as always I thought of Robert Heinlein and how he might have felt watching it soar into orbit at around twenty-two times the speed of a bullet...
The less the government is involved in the meritocracy of aerospace pioneering, the better.
