I'd be willing to bet that Mr. Trump does not intend for Vance to be an ornamental addition to the cabinet. Trump has doubtless acknowledged to himself that he will be a "wartime" president. Getting shot himself may be viewed as a precursor to the continuation of a violent era of history. Much must be set to rights in the world - which requires the use of force, since it's the only language spoken by violent despots and miscreants.
