There may be several reasons a media company will sometimes do this with shows. Comcast has seen its massive investment in buying NBC lose its luster as the cable-broadcast sector has steadily declined in value since the acquisition.
Microsoft has nothing whatsoever to do with the channel any more except provide the "MS" in the name!! See the partnership agreement MS signed onto was permission in perpetuity to use their company's name. So even after MS pulled out all involvement financially or otherwise, the owners of the brand kept "MS" in the name nonetheless. Stupid, huh?
