Dan Rather May be Showing Early Signs of Alzheimer's

-- CBS anchor, Dan Rather told an Assorted Press reporter this morning that he has Alzheimer's disease. This revelation comes after Mr. Rather's recent so called Bush National Guard exposé ended in disaster involving forged documents. Rumors have been circulating that Dan Rather may be faking the Alzheimer problem as a way to evade responsibility for the forged document fiasco.

Mr. Rather's failing mind won't affect his status here at CBS an aide said, "It's never mattered before. Why should it now?" The aide said, "CBS will be making an announcement later today on this matter."

"It's sad that Dan has lost his grip on reality," Tom Brokaw told the Assorted Press, "Peter Jennings and I noticed before that his mind was going, but this just confirms what we all feared."

The Assorted Press has also learned that yesterday Mr. Rather addressed his CBS
news staff, he castigated his colleagues at CBS last night for their critical coverage of the Bush Administration and negative perspective on America. His speech stirred the hearts of many in the audience.

"Now, more than ever, we need to get behind our president," said Rather. "He is the leader of our great republic and deserves our full respect and support. Sometimes it seems like reporters think it's their job to make the president look bad. They seem embarrassed to be Americans. Not me, ladies and gentleman. I'm proud to be an American, where at least I know I'm free. And I won't forget the men who died who gave that right to me. And I'd gladly stand up next to you, and do a live report from somewhere near the frontlines like I did in Vietnam."

Rather ended his talk by leading his CBS colleagues in an a capella rendition of "God Bless America", followed by a solemn recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance.
