The Assorted Press President Bush Turns the Other Cheek, Names Belafonte to Important Iraqi Post by Brooke Lynne Bridge Jan. 9, 2005 (TAP) — U.S. President George Bush responded today to former singer Harry Belafonte’s accusation that Bush is, "the greatest terrorist in the world". “At first I was upset with Harry when he compared me to Osama bin Laden and Saddam Hussein" said Mr. Bush. "But then I realized that Harry was once a famous singer who smoked too many funny cigarettes and now wants to keep his name in the news so I offered him a job." At a White House ceremony, President Bush appointed Harry Belafonte, the singer best known for "Day-O" (The Banana Boat Song), as the Middle East socialist banana inspection team leader, Harry will head for Iraq later this month. This appointment despite Mr. Belafonte's outlandish accusation indicates the president's willingness to work with the American Left. Mr. Bush said, “As you can see, I bear no grudge over the remarks made by Harry and other off the track left-wingers. In addition to Mr. Belafonte, we’re sending Mr. Tally Mon, an expert in fruit statistics and accounting. Mr. Belafonte will oversee Mr. Mon’s work.” A TAP reporter on the scene said Mr. Belafonte turned to Mr. Mon and said, “Come, Mr. Tally Mon, tally me banana.”
